I had a dilemma: what to bring as a house gift for the self-described “mother-in-law from hell”? She’s allergic to flowers; ditto for chocolates. So I decided to bring her a pretty package of multi-colored sweet peppers from the Union Square greenmarket.
While I was there, I couldn’t help noticing the fabulous surplus of chile peppers. Perhaps I’m just super-attuned to it this year, but I really do think the peppers are more beautiful and more varied this year than in years past.
