Greenmarket Chile Pepper Bonanza!

I had a dilemma:  what to bring as a house gift for the self-described “mother-in-law from hell”? She’s allergic to flowers; ditto for chocolates. So I decided to bring her a pretty package of multi-colored sweet peppers from the Union Square greenmarket.

While I was there, I couldn’t help noticing the fabulous surplus of chile peppers. Perhaps I’m just super-attuned to it this year, but I really do think the peppers are more beautiful and more varied this year than in years past. Check out these snaps (one of these days I need to get a proper camera):

I especially love that last photo in the “chile pepper montage.” And if you’re wondering which vendors have the goods, the first photos are from Norwich Meadows Farm, and the last (arty diagonal) photo is from Oak Grove Plantation.

Now, what libations can I make with these beauties?
